VOTING RIGHTS CAMPAIGN

Civil rights, social equality, and suffrage have been at the heart of resistance movements. The Voting Rights Social Media Campaign features the continuous fight for voting rights and a more equitable democracy among Black people, the African diaspora, Indigenous people, and people of color in the US and across the globe. Click through our digital exhibit to see all the photos and video clips in the campaign.

VOTING RIGHTS CAMPAIGN: WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE

Black women and Black women’s organizations have a long history of arguing for equal representation in politics and the right to vote. This gallery highlights many of the organizations, movements, and suffragettes of the 19th and 20th century that focused on gender equality.

VOTING RIGHTS CAMPAIGN:
FROM VOTING SUPPRESSION TO VOTING SUCCESSES

Despite voting and civil rights wins, there have been concerted efforts to limit access to suffrage as well as political and social equality. The struggle for suffrage and civil rights have led to many successes! This gallery depicts attempts to limit voting rights, and successful campaigns to secure those rights.

VOTING RIGHTS CAMPAIGN: BLACK UPRISINGS

Protests have been central to Black resistance movements across the diaspora. From economic equity, to voting rights, to #BlackLivesMatter marches, this gallery captures a bit of that history.

VOTING RIGHTS CAMPAIGN: DEMOCRACY FOR ALL

Black, Indigenous, and people of color around the world have fought for suffrage in their larger struggles for social and political equality.

VOTING RIGHTS CAMPAIGN: VOTING IN THE DIASPORA

Electoral and local politics have been central to the fight for equality in Africa and the diaspora. From National Colored Conventions to prominent figures in the movement for equality, this gallery highlights their important work.
